Today, MIHS’ radio station, formerly known as HotJamz 94.5, became 88.9, The Bridge. This rebranding was the product of a collaboration between radio and marketing students.
The Bridge will feature a wider variety of music genres, multiple shows from various students in the class, and a live music lab with senior Leah Raissis. Raissis helped build The Bridge song by song and will be playing live music on air.
“I’m very excited about the music,” said Raissis. “It’s my specialty.”
Seniors Natalie Newcomb and Matthew MacLellan, catalysts in the creation of The Bridge, introduced the new radio station to a crowd of MIHS students and staff during fifth period today.
While Newcomb and MacLellan entertained the crowd attending the launch event for the new station, the general manager of The Bridge, MIHS’ broadcast media instructor, Joe Bryant sat in the recording studio answering incoming phone calls and running The Bridge’s first ever radio show.
“The Bridge is a bridge to the Mercer Island community but it is also a bridge to the Seattle music community,” said Bryant.
