On Tuesday, April 1, MIHS announced that it will shift Kristy N. Ken-Yun’s role from College and Career Specialist to @mihs_co2025 Post Strategist. Ken-Yun’s new responsibilities include helping students identify colleges that have historically received the most likes and comments as well as curating songs and pictures that match each student’s vibe.
“We have spoken to numerous student leaders and the district firmly believes this new role will better align with our community’s values,” Principal Lick Mold said.
A new survey reveals that 85% of MIHS seniors make their college decisions based on “what will look best on the @mihs_co2025 Instagram page.” Other primary factors include “parental expectations” (7%), “location” (5%), “cost” (2%) and “AI recommendations” (1%).
Some students and faculty wish the Instagram page had less of an influence on the school’s culture, but many believe the account encourages excellence.
“Right after I got into Cal Polygamy, I rushed to the @mihs_co2025 Google Form and started messaging the account’s admin Ameeleeyuh HanSolo on Instagram, Snapchat, Discord and Schoology messenger,” notorious try-hard Cold Nickeldaughter said. “Knowing those 1,440 followers will look at my post for one or two seconds and maybe even repost has made me the studious man I am.”
English teacher, college admissions expert and Vietnam aficionado Corny Johnstone also supports the account.
“When students come to see me, I respect that they recognize the importance of their @mihs_co2025 post,” Johnstone said. “It is the only way to leave a legacy in this community that means so little to them and say, ‘Bye beotch.’”
Although HanSolo thinks the account is important, she believes its content must change.
“Too many students select colleges they’re not interested in so other community members see it on @mihs_co2025,” HanSolo said. “I think we should encourage students to post the most prestigious school they are accepted to rather than the school they’re planning on attending. That’s all our followers really care about anyway.”
