The MIHS Boys Soccer team defeated the Juanita Ravens in a 2-1 victory on Tuesday, April 4th.

The match started with high intensity for MIHS as senior Leo Berkley scored on a wide-open goal 10 minutes into the game, putting the team ahead early.

MIHS led the first half, going back and forth from defense to offense. However, there were many offensive opportunities for MIHS, with Nick Chou getting close to scoring a goal. The rest of the first half highlighted some fast playing from the team with senior Luca Galvin getting close to scoring a crossbar goal. Momentum slowed down when sophomore Ben Park was injured, however, he walked it off. The first half ended with junior David Lee getting a yellow card after exchanging words with Juanita forward #9, causing junior Alex Findlay to sub in.

The first half ended with Mercer Island up by a score of 1-0.

The second half featured a little bit of a slower pace, and a fair amount of back-and-forth between teams. A goal by Juanita in the second half tied the match up 1-1. However, senior Samir Lumba struck back with a header goal, creating a lead of 2-1. The game remained intense throughout both halves, but the Islanders were able to secure a tight win against the Ravens.

“We had a good first half, the second was a little worse,” junior Diego Silva said.

The Islanders will face Interlake at their stadium on Thursday, April 6th, at 7:30 p.m., and hope to achieve another win.
