The Mercer Island Boys Swim and Dive team won against rival Bellevue with a score of 136-49 on Dec. 14.

The stands were packed with fans and members of the MIHS Girls Swim and Dive team cheering for Mercer Island.

The team won all 12 events with several swimmers in Mercer Island qualifying for KingCo and Districts.

Freshman Sam Headrick won the 500-yard freestyle event and qualified for districts in the 100-yard butterfly event.

The team and supporters were excited for the meet because it was against their rival, Bellevue.

“[The energy] was pretty high considering it was against Bellevue, our big rivalry, so there was a lot of big preparation going into this meet,” Headrick said.

The team’s season has started off really successful and they are striving to be better while being surrounded by a positive and supportive community.

“We could work on being a little louder at the meets,” Headrick said. “[I love how] everybody’s pretty supportive, there’s always good energy at practice and meets and the coaches are all accommodating of all your needs.”

The Mercer Island Boys Swim and Dive team’s next meet is against Sammamish at home on Thursday, Dec. 16.
