For the 2025-26 school year, the use of personal laptops will no longer be permitted at MIHS.
As of Wednesday, May 13, 2025, personal laptops will be banned for the 2025-26 school year. This ban includes all laptops that are not school-issued Lenovo laptops; however, the ban does not state that non-school-issued devices such as iPads are not permitted. The laptop ban was announced as a result of the ability to bypass MIHS’ filtration system by using non-school-sanctioned apps. Additionally, MIHS believes the frequent tech issues that come with personal laptops can take away from valuable instructional time throughout the day, as many students with personal laptops find themselves having wireless issues and difficulty consistently being able to access the online resources required for certain classes.
Having only school-issued laptops reduces the amount of stress on the tech staff, enhances security and online safety and eliminates the distraction that comes with having personal devices at school. This decision to ban non-school laptops aligns more closely with MIHS’ newly implemented phone-free policies as well, helping create an interruption-free environment.
As of right now, students at MIHS have been allowed to use non school-issued laptops for the past two years under the agreement that the school keyring is installed and the understanding that any tech issues may not be resolved by the tech team.
