This past Friday, Nov. 22, a Mercer Island Football Team coach was shot six times in the neck, liver and abdomen area. The shooting happened in the Seattle South Park neighborhood around 8 p.m and the suspect fled the scene, according to the Seattle Times.
Tuesday morning, a players-and-coaches-only meeting at MIHS was held, informing the team of what happened.
“The whole team was in shock about it,” junior Bryce Galgon said. “Some [team members] were crying about it.”
Galgon describes him as “an energetic, empathetic, kind and loving dude.”
While the Seattle Times reported Friday night that his medical status was unknown, the players were given an update at the meeting this morning.
“He is currently in the hospital. He’s in stable condition and hopefully only getting better from here,” Galgon said.
MIHS Principal Nick Wold responded to a statement request from the MIHS Islander, saying:
“In respecting the wishes of the family, I do not plan to give a statement right now. When the family wishes for more information to be shared, we will do so.”
