The MIHS Boys Soccer team faced off against opponent Lake Washington last Thursday, Mar. 21 at home. The game was a particularly uneventful one, with the game ending 0-0, even with the added 10 minutes of overtime.
Both teams had impressive defense, and the score stayed stagnant the whole time. Towards the end of the second half, player 20 Mathias Perrenoud almost scored, the closest MI got to a goal that night.
Mercer Island lost to Lake Washington with a score of 1-4 last year, making this game a rivalry game with a chance at redemption.
“We all remember what happened last year,” Perrenoud said. “The day before the game I could tell everyone was training harder and we all wanted that win more than any other team in the league. Many of last year’s seniors came out to watch even [though] we didn’t get the result we wanted with a tie. Teams like [Lake] Washington push us every season to do better and achieve more.”
“We didn’t get the result we wanted and are ready to play them again,” senior captain JP Headrick added.
The team has high hopes for a state run and to win KingCo this year.
“This season we have a very strong team and I am excited to see how far we can go,” Headrick said. “Every game we build team chemistry and work toward becoming a championship team. Can’t wait for the rest of the season.”
Boys Soccer plays their next game at Hazen High School Mar. 26 at 7:30pm.
