Mercer Island Boys Basketball secured their 12th win of the season over Foster High School in a thrilling win this past Friday, Jan. 16, with a score of 65-53.

It was the sophomore guard Caden Conklin who led the way for the Islanders, scoring 19 total points, and making four three-pointers. Senior guard Colin Monahan followed shortly behind, scoring 16 points.

“Every single shot I took, even ones that I missed, felt like they were all going to go in,” Conklin says. “I was in a rhythm on Friday, finding spots to get open and my [teamates] were finding me.”

The Islanders started out slow in the first quarter, but midway through the first, they picked up steam, took the lead away from Foster and didn’t look back, out scoring them in all quarters besides the second.

“This year, we’ve moved the ball really well and played as a team, [having] a lot of assists and anyone can have a big [game],” Conklin says.

Currently, the Islanders are undefeated at home with a record of 6-0 and are sitting at second in 3A KingCo only behind rivals Bellevue.

Their next four games are on the roading returning home for senior night against Evergreen Highschool  Jan. 31.
