The MIHS Football team fell 0-42 to their rivals, the Bellevue Wolverines, on Thursday, Sept. 22.

The Islanders’ mark this as a third loss of the season after a defeat from Auburn Football last week.

“I felt like it went alright, ” Sophomore Elan Gotel said. “I felt like as a unit, we need to be better. We need to kinda mesh more and be together, and practice more together.”

Bellevue took the first possession of the game, and scored the first touchdown in the second half of the first quarter, with a 10-yard pass given to junior Jackson Downs.,

Bellevue continued to dominate on the field; Going into half the Islanders were down 0-35.

In the final minutes of the game, Bellevue won after finishing a tragic final score on the Islanders, losing the game 0-42.

The rivalry between Bellevue and Mercer Island could be seen on full display, with rowdy student sections and taunting from players on the field.

“I feel like we’re gonna come back stronger next weekend. I believe we can make a run in the playoffs. I feel like we’re good enough to do it. I just feel like we need to lock in and be able to do it,” Gotel said. “We’re coming, this isn’t our best fight, I promise you we’ll be back for more.”

The Islanders will hope to come back stronger next week on Friday, Sept. 30, away against Hazen.
