It is an exciting time for Mercer Island athletics, as each spring sports team looks to journey as far as they can through the postseason.

Track and field is certainly no exception.

After an intriguing KingCo meet, the team has a reason to celebrate. 15 athletes are moving on to Districts for 18 different events.

The girls team, which placed second overall in the KingCo meet, fared slightly better than the boys.

All three of the girls relays finished either first or second and are likely to compete at State.

There were also many impressive individual events.

In the 400 meter dash, Mercer Island swept the top four spots, with the next fastest girl running more than four seconds slower.

In the field events, Faith Osei-Tutu dominated in throws, while Celina D’Amico and Maya Virdell shined in high jump. All three will advance to Districts.

While the boys team did not place well as a whole, there were definitely standout performances.

Cameron Longwith placed second in the 300 meter hurdles and will represent all Mercer Island boy runners at Districts.

In addition to Longwith, Ben Roe and Eli Yen had top three finishes in both the Shot Put and the Discus.
