Serious Foss Injuries Cause Forfeit During MIHS Football’s First Home Game

Friday evening, the Mercer Island Football Team’s game against the Foss Falcons ended early when two Foss players were injured and taken out of the game via ambulance.

The injury happened at about 8:20 p.m., with about one minute left in the second quarter. After the play resulting in the injuries, the stadium became silent, and “halftime [was] delayed due to injured players,” according to official MIHS scorekeeper Aaron Kornblum’s report on MaxPreps.

After about 20 minutes of emergency personnel tending to the two injured players on the field, they were taken off the field on stretchers and the game was officially forfeited by the Falcons.

“Foss player hurt. Taken away by ambulance. Foss forfeited,” a comment on MaxPreps by the Falcons’ scorekeeper Shane Burdick said.

Fortunately, at 10:22 p.m., the MIHS football team released an Instagram post that the Foss players are okay, and that they hope they have a speedy recovery before going back onto the field.

Saturday, another Instagram post was released by the Mercer Island School District at 2:05 p.m., releasing news that the MIHS administrators were in contact with Foss administrators, and they received a reply ensuring that the players sustained no severe injuries.

“Thankfully, it appears both students are fine. No major injuries were sustained,” a response from Foss administrators. “[The] athletic director and team did a great job. We are very grateful for them and your responses.”
