Principal Nick Wold is full of goals and ideas for his tenure as MIHS Principal, with his excitement and love for the school fueling his path.
Wold previously served as associate principal to Walter Kelly. Upon Kelly’s leave, Wold served as Interim Principal, then later applied for the permanent head position.
“I love our school, I just have a passion for our students, and I was at a stage in my career where I would much rather step up then step out,” Wold said, when asked about his motivation for running for a higher position.
Another aspect of Wold’s job as principal includes implementing a new school improvement plan.
“Our data will show that marginalized populations in our school do not perform well … I’ve been at the school for seven years and know that our students that [identify] as black are more likely to fail a class than their white counterparts … we need to narrow down why that is,” Wold said.
Further elaborating, he hones in on what he believes he and the administration needs to do to combat this.
“Building better relationships, and a sense of belonging with those students.”
Principal Wold has worked at MIHS for seven years now, and with hopes that MIHS is his last job, his legacy that he wants to leave is an important factor. His most prominent goals involve post-high school success of students, and the progress he wants to make with it.
“I think we could be one of the few public high schools with a 100% graduation rate, [but] that’s not the case right now,” Wold said. “Moving our school 1-2% forward is– challenging, [but] it’s important … definitely a growth area for us.”
Wold’s passion for the school is apparent.
“I want to be a part of the change we see in the school district, and I see this as hopefully my last job.”
