Mercer Island Girls Gymnastics won second place on their senior night against Lake Washington, Interlake and Renton.
The stands were packed with fans cheering on the team to victory. Because it was the last meet other than KingCo, the team tried very hard to make it count. One of the team captains, Kayla Friedman was a major factor in the team winning an overall score of 145.35.
“It was so exciting to see so many of my friends and classmates in the stands cheering us on for our senior night,” Friedman said. “I’m sad that these are my last few weeks competing in a sport that I have been a part of for as long as I remember, but I am also excited to be moving on to the next chapter of my life.”
The Mercer Island Girls Gymnastics team was pleasantly surprised by the amount of people in the stands and the roaring in the crowd.
“We don’t usually get many fans at our meets, but last night so many people came to cheer us on which made the energy super fun,” Friedman said. “After the meet, the whole team agreed that it was the most exciting and high-energy meet we have ever been to.”
Friedman reflects back on what she loved about being on the team.
“My favorite thing about being on the MIHS gymnastics team is the team spirit and support we have for each other,” Friedman said. “Everyone on the team wants the best for one another, and the environment is very encouraging rather than competitive.”
While being competitive with other teams and being supportive of each other, the team has great fun.
“To our team, having fun is more important than getting a good score, which makes meets much more enjoyable and less stressful.”
