Students Revive the Spirit of HOCO

In the past, many MIHS students have avoided Homecoming, prompting the numerous attempts to revive the social event’s popularity. This year, ASB has made promises to make the dance worthwhile, considering the $20 ticket price and the effort required to attend.

The current ASB sophomores run the homecoming dance committee. In hopes of selling more tickets to the dance, they have made plans to get catering from the popular cookie store Crumbl, and, like always, there will be a DJ.

“We think [what] makes a dance fun [is] the people,” MIHS sophomore Clare Capasso said. “This year’s theme is fairytale, so we will decorate the gym to make it look super enchanted and magical.”

Not only has the ASB class been making efforts to boost the school’s spirits through social events and dances, but our beloved Flag Dudes have also shared their enthusiasm for bringing spirit back into MIHS’s atmosphere.

“One way we are going to make Homecoming more popular this year is through social media,” Flag Dude Bazzy Neher said. “We are just gonna hype up Homecoming because it’s our senior year, and we actually really want to make Homecoming big. The last ‘big’ Homecoming that we had was when we were freshmen.”

“I think another thing is that Flag Dudes have a Current segment now that’s dedicated to all things student spirit,” Flag Dude Sam Poole added. “We are definitely going to be highlighting Homecoming.”

When asked if the Flag Dudes would be attending Homecoming, both guaranteed their participation.

The class of 2029’s participation appears to be crucial to the revival of the school’s dance culture. Suppose the majority of the freshman students attend the actual dance. In that case, the entire aspect of Homecoming and other upcoming dances will change, kick-starting a trend of showing up and staying for the duration of the dance.

With the effort going into this year’s dance, it seems like it may be able to make the comeback that ASB is hoping for. From the fairytale magic to the delicious Crumbl cookies, the Once Upon a Homecoming dance seems worth the $20 to attend. Get a dress or tux and pull up to the MIHS gymnasium on Sept. 27 for a fun and spirited time. Don’t forget the students are what make a dance. Help make that impact!
