The Islanders’ Homecoming game on Sept. 26 ended with a disappointing 33-14 loss to the Hazen Highlanders.

Hazen’s victory boosted the Islanders’ overall record to 3-1, despite their best efforts at home. After this district loss, Mercer Island’s season record dropped to zero points.

Despite the loss, the Islanders showed strong effort throughout the game, particularly when sophomore Kainoa Brown scored a touchdown for the team in the second quarter, minutes after Hazen scored a second touchdown. This brought hope and loud cheers from the student section, as it was the first touchdown of the night.

While it was a sorrowful loss, the Islanders will continue to rebuild and look forward to bouncing back in their next game, away against Newport this week on October 4.
