On Dec. 4, the Girls’ Varsity Basketball team played their first game against the Woodinville Falcons. They fought hard and with so much intensity but devastatingly lost the game. The final score was 77-52 Falcons.
In the first quarter, Woodinville got an early lead scoring a 3pt shot. On the Islander’s end of things, Anna Marsh made the first shot for MI, bringing them to 8-3 Woodinville. The end of the first quarter ended with the Falcons up 9 points with a score of 17-8.
Assistant Coach Abel Lopez says “These past couple weeks now our defense has been looking [great]” and he was certain they would continue to improve.
In the second quarter, the Islanders started with possession of the ball and hoped to bring the score up. Unfortunately, the Islanders were unable to make a comeback, and halftime started with a score of 42-27.
After the third quarter, the gap in the score widened and the Falcons were up 62-38. In the final quarter, the Islanders started to decrease the lead but eventually lost it, losing the game 77-52, Woodinville leading by 25 points.
The main focus of the game last night was to improve their defensive game. Freshman Clara Stowe says that her “Defense had a lot of fouls, [she] got 4 fouls” but that the game still went very well and “it was great” for everyone.
Head Coach Ariel Sciammas says that “Next time they play Woodinville it will be a different game” though. They plan to improve their whole game and take the Falcons head-on next time they clash.
