Girls Volleyball Finishes Strong in Match Against Liberty

This Tuesday, Oct. 1, the Girls Volleyball team fought hard and won their game against Liberty High School, winning three of the four sets played and extending their win streak to three games.

“We were definitely more focused and more cognisant of the match we had today–that it was an important one–so everyone was a lot more focused and ready to play hard,” senior captain Brea Loosmore said.

The game started off strong and with lots of energy from the players even with the lack of students in the crowd cheering them on. Despite this, the Islanders persevered and made this match one to be proud of. “It was our best game, if not one of our best games, this season,” Loosmore said.

The first two sets were business as usual for the Islanders, who came on top 25-20 both times.

The third set, however, found the team falling behind as Liberty made a daring comeback, winning the set 25-21.

Although they struggled in the third set, the team had “high energy for the entire game, we never had a dip,” senior captain Nora Prophater said. “That was something we had struggled with in the past but we’re starting to get really good at that and keeping the energy and cheers both on and off the court.”

They kept the energy going into the fourth and final set of the night, finishing with a score of 25-21 and winning the entire game 3-1. On the whole, the team performed spectacularly, but “if there was one thing I’d say we need to work on it would be that our serve and receive could be a little bit more polished, but overall tonight I think we played amazing,” Loosmore said.

Come cheer on the Islanders as they take on Newport in an away game next Monday, Oct. 7!
